Fancy the riding challenge of a lifetime in 2012?
Sixteen challengers have just returned from a big adventure in Bulgaria after completing the BHS Spartacus Riding Challenge 2011
The treks covered some 150 miles from Trigrad to Melnik for week one and in reverse for week two. Riding through mountain ranges including the Rhodope range, the Slavyanka Mountains and the mighty Pirin Mountains which soar above the ancient wine producing town of Melnik, the Challengers galloped through forests and meadows, camping by the river and savouring BBQs by the camp fire.
Philly Hamilton from Saffron Walden, Essex said: "It was such fun and a great experience. I loved it all from the sore bottom to hours in the saddle to fun around the camp fire, fabulous views, flowers, food and wines, great horses and jolly company."
The BHS have been running the challenges since 2000 in order to raise awareness but ultimately funds and during the last nine years, hundreds of riders have successfully completed BHS Challenge Rides. As well as enjoying the experience of a lifetime, every one of these riders has raised money that is vital in funding the welfare work of the BHS. Without the intrepid Challengers, they would not be able to run the nationwide network of more than 180 welfare officers (more than any other equine charity) or achieve anywhere near as much to improve the lives of countless horses, ponies and donkeys.
You too can join the adventure with applications still being accepted for the following rides next year;
BHS Inca Challenge Ride in Peru 20 May-2 June
BHS Catalonia Trail Ride in Spain 10-6 June
BHS Viking Challenge Ride in Iceland 18-25 August
