Natural hooves and barefoot trim

I found that article really useful, did anyone else? I may even consider having my horse go barefoot now

I did. After Indy pulled 2 shoes in a week, I decided it would be better if she was to make the wild leap to be barefoot. At least until next summer. She's been ridden since the shoes came off and doesn't seem to have any problems. Our 2 retired ponies are barefoot too and our farrier has been trimming them for years.
Bonus is her feet should look fantastic come show season!!

Hi when we first transitioned to barefoot we researched what info was available and called out a DAEP he was great and worked with our vet to rehab our pony with navicular, since then i have qualified as a DAEP myself. I continue my education every year to keep up with new sciences etc, All of our horses are barefoot and we have 31, we hack over varied terrain and show etc with no problem. My advice would be the same as many, Research, the more knowledge you have the better equiped you are to make a decision.

As a DAEP we practice whole horse hoof care this includes many factors such as diet, work load, rider, the whole enviroment and how that may be effecting the horse. We work very closely with the owner and vets where needed and are happy to answer any questions you may have

I have a barefoot horse who has been barefoot for 7 years now. I took his shoes off within a month of buying him and we've never looked back. He can get a bit footy on stoney ground if he doesn't do it for a while but otherwise he's fine. He does have hoofboots if we want to hack on stoney ground, mainly because he's an older boy now (21) and I don't want to push it.

I have had farriers trim him over the years who only take 10 minutes and cost next to nothing, but about 2 years ago I found a local barefoot trimmer, who charges twice the amount but it absolutely ace. She takes photos every time, watches him walk and trot up and writes me a full written report with health scores for each hoof. Much much better and worth the extra cost!
