I have just bought a shetland who is registered and i wondered what the Shetland pony stud book society is all about and are there any advantages?

I think, but don't quote me on it, that a Shetland pony registered with the Shetland Pony Stud Book Society has some guarantees about their breeding in terms of being "correct" to breed standards. And that you can also enter registered-only Shetland classes at shows.

Members of the society also get quarterly news letters, and the prices for passport applications and registering another pony are significantly less. On the website there's PDFs with the members and non members price lists. But, if this isn't going to effect you, then membership doesn't really have that many benefits - you can still enter registered shetland classes as long as the pony is registered; you don't have to be a member. I have two mini shetlands, and I thought about membership, but it is fairly expensive - I think the first annual subscription for an adult is £55 and then it goes down to £35 each year after that. It doesn't really sound like that much, but it is if you're not using the benefits! Hope this helped a bit
