Urinary infection?

Postby Miranda » Wed May 22, 2013 11:14 am

My gelding has recently become a bit grumpy when being groomed, which is very unusual for him and, on a couple of occasions in the last week, passed small amounts of slightly syrupy (or concentrated) looking urine. He is eating as usual but I haven't seen him do a big wee for a while (but obviously I'm not with him 24/7). Could this be a sign of a urinary or kidney infection? He doesn't seem particularly sensitive over his back behind the saddle area, though he did step away from me when I was grooming him this morning.

No idea re urinary infection but I'd be calling the vet out. Always best to be on the safe side and behaviour often changes if the horse is uncomfortable or in pain.
