Re: Do you own a British native breed?
i would love to own an exmoor pony they are absoloutely gorgous. I was lucky enough to get close to wild exmoor ponies when i visted exmoor on a college trip. We then visted a centre that rehyabilitates them and turns them into riding ponies from the groups that are herded up from the moors each year.

Aww that is a gorgeous picture! My friend had a Dales pony, he was gorgeous looking but incredibly bad tempered with anyone apart from her. He actually used to try and grab children as they walked past his stable door! A few years later I met another Dales pony who was the sweetest tempered pony I had ever come across. Just goes to show, you never really know what personality a horse or pony is going to have. They are just like us and come in all shapes, sizes and personalities.

It's a lot like nuts and bolts –
if the rider's nuts, the horse bolts!

Re: Do you own a British native breed?
I think more people should be encouraged to look into taking on a native, i am the very proud owner of a little new forest who i wouldn't swap for the world. We got him wild from the new forest so is registered and i've had fun researching his breeding history, although came to a stop on his dams side but on his sire's i can go back 4 generations. he's an odd colour, bit of grey, bit of roan, bit or bay, brown and even orange in his mane and tail. but i love him!
He was super dooper hard work, and he he still is, he has his own personality and is like having a child, sometimes harder i think! I'd have another in the blink of eye - but the other half says no
He's going to make an excellent pony for my little sister and cousin next year, and i hope he fills out so i can ride him. i've always wanted a highland, i think think they look superbly elegant and stunning. i find our natives seem to have that hardy stubborn nature, a bit like us lot? (:

Re: Do you own a British native breed?
I own a Dartmoor mare, i have a shetland pony on full loan (for the children) and a grey shire mare which i hope to put in foal in 2012 - so got plenty of time to find a suitable stallion.
I love natives, strong, low maintance, just so easy to work.
