Horse just not right?

Postby Kaliska » Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:08 pm

Went to ride my horse last night and although he was sound and stepping out in walk and canter, his trot felt very stiff and awkward. Looking in the mirrors in the school, he wasn't stepping through properly with one of his hind legs and he seemed uncomfortable so I stopped riding.

We had been out cantering and galloping round the field the previous morning, so might he just have been stiff and sore from that?

I hosed his legs off for a bit, and then turned him back out and will check him again tonight, but is there anything else I can do in the meantime?

Back pain? Maybe you should get that checked out by a horse back checking person, whatever they're called. Or check the fit of your saddle. Or check you weren't doing anything weird.

Hope this helps, I doubt it does, but it's the best I can do, m'fraid

Well, he had only just had the back lady out, but he was fine after a day of rest and has gone off and done side saddle today!

It could be he's just a little still, that is the most likely explanation, but it could also be a mild form of azortia, or tying up disease, but that is less likely than muscle stiffness given he was excersized the day before. Anyway, I hope you get to the root of the cause!
