underweight mare

Postby EastCoastKatie » Mon Nov 08, 2010 8:02 pm

i've just brought an Irish Draught cross filly, she's 3, and had a foal in the summer with her last owner. The foal is huge and has clearly brought my filly down. She is 15.2hh and really underweight. I'd like to build her up slowly and find out what suits her, but I don't really know where to start and would really love some advice!

My mare is an ex steeple chaser from Ireland. she was under weight when I got her. I put her on Alfa Oil, Saracen mix. She was also out at grass in the day. Hay at night. It worked wonders for her. Being a Thoroughbred it did not fizz her up.
