When out hacking, I expect...

Postby admin » Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:21 am

What do you expect when you head out for a hack? A brilliant afternoon, death-defying stunt riding, wildlife spotting, good gossip with friends, time alone with your horse...? Tell us what you expect in 50 words or less!

I expect to enjoy the company of my horse and give the dog a good run. A good hack is defined by everyone returning to the yard dirty, sweaty and happy! OK. The dog wouldn't be sweaty, but she makes up for in in dirt and mud!

A nice pootling ride in the sunshine, just me and him, enjoying whats all around!

However, what tends to happen is we pootle for a bit and then feel like a rocket waiting to go off etc.

… the unexpected. No matter what horse you're riding — supposedly bombproof or otherwise – you can never be off your guard! I've had some precarious moments on even the most level-headed horses, courtesy of lawn mowers, sprinklers, other riders and pheasants, to name a few

other riders to pass me at walk and with a decent distance between them and my horse. I also hate it when someone over takes me and then canters off as soon as they have gone past. Manners cost nothing and safety is so important, so please think about other riders.

I hope to enjoy it and both of us make it back in one piece.

Kids playing in the local playground
Little dogs rushing up that bark so loud,
We've got builders in the street that mix concrete
all these things always keep us on our feet!
Bus drivers forgetting that their air brakes hiss
And PIGEONS!Things could always go amiss....

(or insert expletive...!)
