Showsheen-detangler
RRP
£18.82

Absorbine Showsheen Hair Polish & detangler

Contains pro-vitamins to boost condition plus silk proteins for strength and shine.

We say…

Amazing big bottle that you can even spray upside down. The effects lasted for days and the formula worked well at removing knots while reducing hair breakage. Good on thick or thin tails. Really handy sized bottle that could be used across multiple horses. Lovely fragrance. Gave tails extra volume and a good coating ensured a gleaming, shiny finish.

Cavalor-detangler
RRP
£17

Cavalor Star Shine

Long-lasting hair conditioner that brightens the horse’s hair.

We say…

A fast-acting detangler that gave long-lasting results. Seemed to soften the hairs so made knots really easy to brush out and also added plenty of shine to the hair. A good enough product to use on the coat to get it gleaming, too. Had a unique but pleasant scent. On the higher end of the cost spectrum and might not last long for a multi-horse owner, but the results and effectiveness warranted the pricetag.

Shapleys-detangler
RRP
£16.44

Shapley’s Magic Sheen Hair Polish

Silicone blend with no added alcohol or fillers to keep hair healthy and free from tangles.

We say…

Effective, easy-to-apply mist spray, with a lovely scent. Detangled well and reduced the amount of hair breakage when brushing and the effects lasted for days. Effective on all hair types, but would be especially valuable for thin tails. Left a lovely shine, and the transparent bottle allowed you to see how much product was left, which was useful.

Silky-tail-detangler
RRP
£16.00

Equine America Silky Tail detangler

Formula that contains silicone oil for soft, shiny hair. With an action that repels dust and dirt.

We say...

A big sturdy bottle that has lasted really well even when being used for multiple horses. Knots seemed to fall out when brushing, reducing breakage and hair loss – so would be great on fine, brittle or sparse tails. Kept tails tangle-free for days and worked consistently on different types of horses. Had a pleasant smell that wasn’t overpowering. Left a long-lasting shine and a little bit of product went a long way.

Pommel-detangler
RRP
£14.99

Pommel Velvet

A 2-in-1 stain remover and leave in conditioner, with no added silicone.

We say…

Had a lovely refreshing scent and the spray mechanism meant you didn’t waste product. Reduced knot formation between sessions. Great to use as a leave-in conditioner and wasn’t sticky so left mane and tail with a lovely soft feel and look. More expensive than others but a little went a long way. It was a convenient size for stashing away in your grooming kit.

Supreme-Products-detangler
RRP
£14.85

Supreme Products Detangle & Shine

Formulated to keep manes and tails tangle-free and lustrous.

We say…

The spray offered great coverage so a few squirts went a long way. Product had no noticeable scent and was fairly effective at removing knots, although results weren’t as long-lasting as with other products. Best results were seen on clean manes and tails, so best suited for use before the show ring.

Science-supplements-detangler
RRP
£12.99

Science Supplements Mane & Tail detangler

Long-lasting, quick-acting formula containing aloe vera to soften and nourish the hair.

We say…

Bottle was durable and the nozzle worked well. Had a long, smooth spray action. Its smell was pleasant, and the spray removed knots easily, leaving tails looking great. One application definitely helped to keep tails more manageable, but would have liked the effects to last a little longer. The finish wasn’t greasy so it left manes and tails looking shiny and feeling smooth.

Equine-Products-detangler
RRP
£12.48

Equine Products UK Mane & Tail detangler

Reduces hair breakage and keeps the mane and tail sleek and free from tangles while repelling dirt.

We say…

Bottle was easy to use and a good size, and has stood up well to use on the yard. Had a lovely scent, but mane and tail needed a good coating for best results so it wouldn’t last long if using on multiple horses. Detangled well but didn’t prevent further knots from forming. A good product for everyday use that didn’t leave a sticky residue.

CarrDayMartin-detangler
RRP
£11.70

Carr & Day & Martin Canter Mane & Tail

Detangler and long-lasting conditioner that helps to reduce hair breakage with an oil-free shine.

We say…

A little bit of spray went a long way, and left the hair soft and silky with no unpleasant stickiness. It had a nice scent, and was equally effective on fine and wiry tails. Each application lasted at least a few days, and it prevented further knots building up in the meantime, which reduced brushing time between applications. Came in an aluminium bottle, which was really robust and stood up well to wear and would be suitable to refill in the long term.

Lincoln-detangler
RRP
£11.50

Lincoln Silky Shine Hair Polish & detangler

Contains vitamins and proteins for condition, sheen and manageability, with a dust-repelling formula.

We say…

Lightweight, handy sized plastic bottle that has stood up well to regular use. The spray mechanism offered good coverage, although best results were seen when the product was applied fairly liberally. It had a subtle scent, and left no residue, meaning manes and tails were manageable after use. A good everyday product that offered reasonable value for money.

Nettex-detangler
RRP
£10.99

Nettex Mane & Tail detangler

Non-oily formula that detangles and seals the hair to prevent breakage. Repels dust and dirt, too.

We say…

Easy to use spray in a sturdy bottle. Smelled nice but not overpowering. Wasn’t oily, so didn’t make the tail tacky like some can. The best results were seen when a fair amount of product was applied. Tail felt clean after use and the effects lasted a few days, allowing knots to be easily brushed out.

NAF-detangler
RRP
£10.99

NAF Silky Mane & Tail D-Tangler

We say…

Sturdy bottle with useful spray settings. Quick-acting formula allowed knots to be brushed out quickly after spraying. Had a lovely scent and left the hair shiny and glossy. Used on a regular basis, it’s reduced grooming time as has prevented the build-up of mud and knots in the hair. A great everyday detangler that leaves the hair soft and manageable.

Leovet-detangler
RRP
£10.75

Leovet 5 star detangler

We say…

Bottle came in a great size and the shape made it really easy to handle. It had a light, refreshing fragrance that held for a little while. The formula worked well and left a long-lasting silky finish. It detangled well even after applying fairly minimal product, and when used liberally the effects lasted for a couple   of days.

Hy-Shine-detangler
RRP
£9.99

Hy Equestrian Magic Finish

Enhancing conditioner, rich in silk proteins.

We say…

Easy to use with a no-leak locking mechanism. Produced a fine mist that was great for sensitive types and gave even coverage. A little went a long way and the mist action meant you never used more than you’d need. Didn’t leave the hair too slippery, although there was a slight stickiness after use. Smelt fresh without being overpowering and was very affordable.

Helps to calm and restore the horse’s wellbeing after exercise. Ideal for a quick freshen up.

£11.99 for 500ml

We say…

This product had a pleasant herbal fragrance and was easily diluted in a bucket of water. The top makes it easy to add too much, so pour it with care. I was very impressed with the results. My horse was very clean after use and it removed sweat and dust from his coat easily. A little went a long way and I’d recommend it for winter use when you want to remove grime without giving your horse a full bath.

Equine America Lavender No-Rinse Body Wash

£9.99 for 500ml

We say…

Although the consistency was thicker than I’d anticipated for a no-rinse formula, it diluted well and didn’t create too many bubbles. The smell wasn’t overpowering and it was very refreshing. I used it on a very sweaty horse and it left a lovely, soft feeling on his coat when he’d dried. You don’t need much to get a result and I found the best result came from diluting it with water.

I used this wash after exercise, when my horse felt sticky or sweaty. It was easy to apply with a damp cloth – I just rubbed my horse over with it, and his coat looked and felt great as it dried. A dollop on the cloth was sufficient to do most of his body and it was quick and easy to apply – the bottle has lasted a long time.
