Top international teams in the Longines FEI Nations Cup give Britain hot competition

The Longines FEI Nations Cup of Great Britain returns to the Longines Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead Showground on Friday, 28 July, with eight international teams competing for the prestigious Prince of Wales Trophy. Teams taking part in 2023 are Great Britain, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Sweden and the USA, of which the top seven will go on to compete in the Longines Nations Cup Final to be held in Barcelona on Sunday, 1 October. Teams will be placed according to their overall total score, with first prize going to the team with the fewest points.

The two-round competition sees the teams of four riders each competing over a challenging course for a share of the €200,000 prize money, and, this year, the British team is hoping for its first win for 13 years. However, Britain faces strong opposition, especially from last year’s winners, France, who will be aiming for a second win in a row, and Sweden, who took the cup in 2019.

The British team for 2023 includes Ben Maher (Exit Remo), Harry Charles (Casquo Blue), Tim Gredley (Medoc De Toxandria), John Whitaker (Equine America Unick de Francport) and Donald Whitaker (Di Capro), although only four will ride on the day (riders are announced on Thursday, 27 July).

The Longines Royal International Horse Show runs from 26-30 July. For tickets or more information, visit hickstead.co.uk
