HBO are being sued for allegedly mistreating horses and then covering it up during filming for the TV series 'Luck'.
Animal rights worker Barbara Casey claims that horses were ill, underweight and drugged during production of the HBO series, which focused on the seedy side of racing. Her lawsuit says that four horses died – the number previously reported was three.
Barbara was director of the film and television unit at the American Humane Society at the time. She says that she was wrongly sacked from her post after complaining about treatment of horses on the show. ‘Luck’ was cancelled last year during the filming of the second series after several horses died.
How much do you know about stereotypies? This is the scientific term for any repetitive behaviour. In horses, the most common are crib-biting, windsucking, weaving and box walking. In May Horse&Rider, Dr Debbie Marsden shares her advice for dealing with stereotypic behaviours. Check out a sneak peek here. www.horseandrideruk.com/the-magazine/issues/may-2024/force-of-habit/...
