Burghley Horse Trials, which runs from 1–4 September has appointed the Household Cavalry Foundation as its official charity of 2022 with the aim of raising the charity’s profile, as well as collecting vital donations

Lincolnshire’s Burghley Horse Trials has appointed the Household Cavalry Foundation as its charity of the year. Previous recipients of the popular horse trial’s support include Alzheimer’s Research UK and The Gurkha Welfare Trust. The Household Cavalry Foundation provides charitable and pastoral welfare support to all the members of the Household Cavalry family comprising serving soldiers, operational casualties, veterans, and dependants. The Foundation also supports the Household Cavalry’s heritage and its retired horses.

Giles Stibbe OBE, Director of the Household Cavalry Foundation, said: “We hope that our partnership with Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will help us to raise awareness of the essential work the foundation does, helping those who’ve served our country, both human and equine.”

Burghley Horse Trials Event Director, Martyn Johnson, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting the important work undertaken by the Household Cavalry Foundation.  The origins of eventing evolved through the training of cavalry horses, meaning there are strong, long-standing links between our sport and the work of the British Army’s cavalry regiments,” citing this jubilee year as “a very appropriate time to be supporting the Foundation’s work.”

Anyone buying tickets to this year’s event will be able to contribute to the foundation at the time of purchase, as well as during the event itself where there’ll be a number of donation points around the showground. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet some of the Household Cavalry horses including the famous Cavalry Blacks, Trumpeters’ Greys, and Drum Horses.
