Officers bid farewell to retiring police horse

Paddington the police horse

He might have faced huge, noisy crowds, but retiring police horse Paddington won’t only be remembered for his bravery. The 16-year-old, 17.2hh Irish Draught X served for a total of nine years on various police forces – for the past four years with Northumbria Police – but never overcame his fear of crisp packets. Sergeant Stu Coates said: “Paddington has been an invaluable match day horse. He’s fearless when faced with angry crowds, but fears crisp packets, flags and bubbles. Unbelievable!”
