Unique opportunity to tour a ‘donkey hospital’ from the comfort of your own home

The Donkey Sanctuary is offering its supporters the opportunity to enjoy a virtual tour of its donkey hospital in celebration of the facility’s fifth anniversary

This Saturday (29 September), the world’s largest equine welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its state-of-the-art donkey hospital. Since 2017, more than 1,500 donkeys and their companions have passed through Brookfield Farm’s doors, and the facility has provided training to vet surgeons and students alike.

To celebrate the occasion, the charity is offering supporters the opportunity to join them virtually with a special edition broadcast of its award-winning Sanctuary From Your Sofa, live from the hospital. The broadcast will take place from 3–4pm on Saturday 29 October and will be available to watch via the charity’s website.

Viewers will be taken on a virtual tour of the hospital and will hear from vets about the work they do there and will also meet some of the in-patients.

The hour-long broadcast will also feature The Donkey Sanctuary’s ambassador Peter Wright. The star of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet will be live in the studio to answer questions, and viewers will be able to watch a pre-recorded film of Peter helping veterinary surgeon Vicky Grove during a routine operation on a resident donkey.

“What I find really thrilling is that this hospital, with its capacity to offer world-class treatment and training, is just one part of the charity’s work to ensure the donkeys in their care, and across the world, have a much better future,” said Peter Wright.

The hospital is equipped with the most up-to-date facilities to treat donkeys when they need it most. Whether it’s an ultrasound, an endoscope or laser treatment for skin tumours, the dedicated veterinary team are trained to give these animals the expert care they deserve.

Through its work, The Donkey Sanctuary has also been able to share its growing body of specialist knowledge and experience around the world, even hosting training events and sharing donkey specific veterinary information across the globe.
