October 2024 Issue

We are so excited to announce that the October issue of Horse&Rider features Olympic gold medallist Laura Collett as our Guest Editor.

“While it’s been the summer of dreams for me,” said Laura, “work on this issue began months ago, well before ‘that’ phonecall from Dickie Waygood to tell me that Dan and I were off to Paris with Team GB. I’m so lucky to have been able to make my passion for horses into my career, and feel really privileged to be able to share with you some of the things I’ve learned along the way. The secret to success is down to hard work (and a bit of good luck), and I really enjoyed answering your questions, and sharing my training exercises with the H&R team. I hope they help to inspire you.”

In this issue, discover Laura’s simple gridwork exercise that’s suitable for every level of horse and rider, find out what a week in her life really looks like and relive her unforgettable week in Paris. Plus, nutritionist Griselda Beaumont explores the updated golden rules of feeding, mindset and confidence coach Alison Buttery shares eight steps to help you overcome your fears and Nicola Wilson explains how laying the foundations in your warm-up can lead to a more successful and enjoyable session in the first part of her new series.

Earlier this year Assistant Editor Sarah jumped on a zoom call with two experts. So far, a typical day-in-the-life in this job. But she came away from her chat with Emma Cornish and Helen Reynolds feeling totally inspired. It can be easy to focus on the work that a rider and their team put into getting horses to peak for a major event, but what about the work that goes on away from the yard to support those equine athletes? This is Emma and Helen’s specialty as Forge Manager and Thermoregulation and Cooling Manager respectively at the 2024 summer games, as well as many previous Olympics and Championships. They agreed to share their experiences in Paris with us, and it makes absolutely fascinating reading – you don’t want to miss it!
