Dengie is launching a Fuelled by Fibre training bursary that will give four Horse&Rider readers the chance to become Dengie ambassadors for the 2018 season. The lucky winners will see for themselves the benefits of an alflafa-based diet for a competition horse. Our Dengie ambassadors will share their experiences via regular updates on a blog featured on the Horse&Rider website. Plus, we’ll catch up with the winners at the end of the competition season to find out exactly how they got on. To help make sure both you and your horse perform at your best, you’ll also receive lessons from two top trainers – dressage rider Hannah Esberger and eventer Lucy Jackson.
Why feed fibre?
Alfalfa is a great source of fibre, naturally abundant in vitamins, minerals and quality protein that’s essential for muscle development and repair. Cereals contain high levels of starch, which is broken down into sugar that can cause peaks and troughs in your horse’s energy levels, which may result in unpredictable behaviour. Feeding alfalfa and oil can easily provide the same amount of energy as a cereal-based feed, but with significantly lower levels of sugar and starch. Dengie chopped and pelleted fibre feeds provide more chew time, promote digestive health and can easily fuel the performance horse.
Did you know?
Alfa-A Oil has an energy level of 12.5MJ/kg of digestible energy, which is comparable to a competition mix or cube but with, on average, 10 times less starch.
Why should I enter?
H&R spoke to last year’s winners, Libby, Natalie and Heather, to discover their thoughts looking back over a year of support from Dengie.
“It’s been fantastic. I learnt so much in my lessons with Hannah and Lucy, and Claire’s feeding advice has left Charlie looking and feeling tip top!” – Natalie
“Whatever your level, I would highly recommend anyone thinking of entering this competition to give it a go!” – Heather
“I’m so glad I entered. Thanks to the training and nutrition advice, Sherbert’s never looked better!” – Libby
