Overview
11.1 9 year mare.
Nellie really is a little sweetheart and Jake is really enjoying riding her.
She settled quickly and has been lovely to have around, you don’t know she’s there. She’s been happy in or out, with good stable manners.
She’s good to lead, load, travel, bath, for the farrier (barefoot), dentist. To catch if you take a handful of hay or a scoop she comes running, otherwise she’s not so keen 😂 however now it’s getting colder she’s usually at the gate come tea time!
She does like a groom and I often catch Jake having a quiet cuddle in the stable with her.
She pulls the odd face but means nothing by it, and now she’s got to know us they’re pretty much non existent.
Under saddle she is responsive to the aids and has lovely transitions, but not sharp/spooky or strong and has brakes, she’d rather pull herself up than shoot off.
She works nicely and I think if showing was what you were looking to do she’d produce into something very nice.
She is independent and doesn’t rely on someone on the ground, she has done work on the lead rein including pony club but she does enjoy being off so would be a good transition pony.
We have taken her to arena hire and she was well behaved, she didn’t try and get back to the other pony who was working on her own away from her, she didn’t look at any of the other horses, banners, flowers etc and it was quite windy.
She has had the odd little buck in canter when jumping but nothing malicious, just a fun little hop and I think it’s a genuine ‘this is fun!’. There’s no stop/spin/dropping of shoulder/shooting off after when Jake just pushed her on.
She’s not a complete kick along by any means and respects little legs and will teach someone a lot as when you ask her something it actually happens!
None of the coloured fences she did fazed her, currently she’s more the trot and pop/trot over type but she gets them in/over and away in one piece! With a bit more umph she has a tidy little pop but equally happy to trot in.
She also had a little go at some games in the school and wasn’t bothered by the flags or Jake hanging off the side to reach things.
She’s super to hack, we have been out alone (with me walking behind) and in company and she is happy with both, not blinked at any of the traffic we have seen and was happy in front, upside or behind the others. The worst she did was a half hearted stop like ‘oh have I got to keep going?’ when alone but a squeeze and she was away again. She’s hacked round the farm and again goes off on her own with no issue.
She’s been round the fields alone and with another, will go away from the other or wait while the other goes off, she went for a canter and pulled straight up as soon as she was asked.
She’s a super sweet little pony that really wants a family that appreciates her, I think she’d love a home where she can have lots of fun, PC/RC/fun rides etc with a child that really does want a best friend (she’s a mare and the type that will give you their all and more when they feel appreciated and in a partnership) , the child doesn’t need to be the next Charlotte Dujardin but one that actually wants to ride rather than a forced hack out once a week! She’s absolutely loving a fun, varied lifestyle and if she was a bit bigger Jake would be raiding his piggy bank!
She’s wormed and vacc’d up to date, teeth done and up to date with trimming.
The owner did say if left alone in the stable she did see her lightly crib however I haven’t seen her even think about it, she’s been the quietest thing in the stable, she just pokes her little nose over to say hi when the others go by!
