Q: I’m going on a riding holiday to Spain, but my skull cap is going to be much too hot. What do you suggest I do?

Horse&Rider answers:
We suggest you treat yourself to a nice lightweight one – so not too heavy to carry in your luggage – with ventilation slots in the top to help you keep your cool, and that you can also use for summer hacking in this country.

As you’re going to sunnier climes, look for a hat whose lining can be removed for washing after long, hot days in the saddle. And remember to check that your hat conforms to the required safety standards – ie, a minimum of EN 1384 – and that it is fitted with an integral, adjustable nylon harness.
