International Eventing Forum 2018 – ‘What’s the Limit’?

Posted in News

The 2018 International Eventing Forum takes place this year on February 5 at Hartpury College, where attendees can look forward to a day full of insight and education into the sport of eventing.

Few would argue that eventing is a different sport now than it was 20 years ago. As the sport changes we must ask ourselves “How far can we push the boundaries in our sport to keep up with the obvious performance improvements of both horse and rider?”; “How do we retain the integrity of the sport we all love so much?”; And in a sport where amateurs compete alongside professionals, “How can we continue to raise our game without alienating the enthusiastic amateur?”.

The theme ‘What’s the limit’ will bring together some of eventing’s most influential riders, trainers and mentors to address these questions and attendees can look forward to an inspirational day of training for success in the sport of eventing.

The morning will start with a session entitled ‘If it isn’t good enough, it won’t get better’ with legendary dressage trainer Sandy Phillips. A member of the US Olympic dressage team, Sandy rode in three World Championships and when she moved to England, became a member of the British Dressage team for the European and World Championships. Sandy is an FEI “3*/4*” Judge for Eventing and an FEI 4*Judge for dressage, as well as being a much sought after trainer by both eventers and pure dressage riders alike.

The morning session will continue with “The Foundation allows for Progress” from IEF co-founder Eric Smiley (FBHS) – an Olympian and 4* competitor who needs little introduction to eventing circles.

After the lunch break, the renowned performance psychologist Charlie Unwin will share with attendees how “The mind limits the body”. With sports psychology now widely recognised as a key ingredient in sporting success, Charlie has built a reputation for his specialist experience in helping equestrians accelerate their potential, perform consistently in competition and thrive under pressure.

The key presenter for IEF 2018 is Fredrik Bergendorff from Sweden. Fredrik is the new Swedish Event Team manager and coach, who steered his team to bronze medal position at the 2017 European Three Day Eventing Championships in Poland. His session is entitled ‘Preparing for the top’ and Fredrik will share his vast knowledge and obvious attention to detail, that has led to his current position as Head Coach for the Swedish Eventing Team.

Whether your goal is 4* success or tackling your first BE90, the International Eventing Forum is an invaluable opportunity to learn from top riders and experts within eventing. The date is February 5 2018, and the venue is Hartpury college. Tickets are just £50 if purchased in advance, so book today to avoid disappointment!
