True friendship comes out of heartbreak

Following the loss of his best friend, donkey Max has rediscovered friendship thanks to The Donkey Sanctuary

24-year-old donkey Max lost his best friend to colic this year but, thanks to The Donkey Sanctuary, he’s got a new best pal – 20-year-old Marian. The pair have been inseparable ever since. Marian had been declared unable to be rehomed due to a dental condition she’s had all her life, so was destined to enjoy her days at The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon.

However, Tewsday Herbert – a donkey welfare adviser – found out about Max and was determined to find him a new companion. She sent Max’s owner some photos of Marian and you could say the rest is history. Marian looked just like Max’s original companion, Rosie, which would help them bond were they to be introduced.

Marian was given a full medical examination by vets at The Donkey Sanctuary to ensure she was fit and well, then – following a trim from the farrier and dental check –she travelled to join Max in Berkshire. Marian’s proven to be the breath of fresh air that heartbroken Max needed, and the pair have been smitten ever since.
