No more ballots for BEDE Events entries as places are given in the order they are received

Competitions run by BEDE Events are to become the first British Eventing affiliated fixtures to stop using the ballot system. As a result, riders will be given places in the order their entries are received by BEDE. The move has come about due to low entries in the 2022 British Eventing season, which even saw some events cancelled as a result.

The first event to use this new system was Oasby, running from 9-12 March, and it’s hoped the new scheme will encourage more entries in the coming season.

In addition to this new initiative, BEDE is to waive the substitution fee for horses, which will allow riders to enter up to five horses per day for an event and swap the intended horse for another at a later date without financial penalty.

Director of BEDE Stuart Buntine said: “By operating this system, we hope that everybody will have an equal chance of competing at our events. As with any new system, there will be some lessons to learn. However, we hope that this will enable riders to confidently enter early to ensure they get a run.”
