A pregnant mare who was involved in a serious road traffic accident has made her way to Redwings to receive specialist care and training.

When senior Redwings field officer, Jo Franklin, was called to the scene of a car accident, she was shocked by the sight of a pregnant mare trapped in railings in the central reservation on a busy road in Essex. Jo said: “She was in a terrible state. She’d sustained a broken nose and serious chest injuries that required immediate veterinary attention.”

Once she’d been treated, the mare, now named Majesty in honour of the Queens jubilee, made her way to a private boarding home, where she received excellent care and began her recovery. But it became clear that Majesty was traumatised by the accident and was understandably very head shy. So, on the 25 February, she was moved to Redwings where she would receive ongoing support from a team of behavioural experts.

Redwings will also make the perfect setting for Majesty to have foal, as she’ll get all the care and attention she needs. Jo continued: “She’s been through a lot, so nothing is guaranteed, but we really hope we’ll be able to share some good news with you in the future.”

Majesty was microchipped, but unfortunately her owners’ details weren’t registered so they couldn’t be identified. Luckily, Majesty will always have a loving home at Redwings.
