Things-to-do-this-autumn

With a bit of inspiration, the colder months with your horse can be as much fun as the summer ones

Does the thought of autumn make you want to curl up into a ball on the sofa, hiding away from all horse duties? Don’t panic! Many people feel the same way, but we’re here to show you how pretty autumn can be and remind you of how much you really do love your horse. Take a look at our six things to do in autumn.

Go for coffee

There are plenty of coffee shops you can ride your horse to, as long as you stick to cafes in a rural location. You would, of course, need to be accompanied by a friend so one of you can go in to grab the coffee while the other watches the horses. Think of it as a pub ride but in the autumn and without the alcohol – unless you have an Irish coffee that is!

Forest ride

Leaves crunching under hoof, the smell of crisp autumn air and the leaves on the trees looking as if they’re on fire, what isn’t there to love about a forest ride?

Beach ride

It may be chilly on the beach now, but there’ll also be fewer people around, so you can go for a good gallop along the sand without so much worry. You could even grab a chippy on the way home!

Hallowe’en dress up

Did you think dressing up for Hallowe’en is just for kids? Wrong! Have a spooky Hallowe’en photoshoot with your horse! If you’re bold, try a headless horseman, but simply popping some pumpkins around your horse as he stands on the yard would look cool, too!

Groundwork

With the shorter nights, it’s sometimes difficult to find the time you need to ride. Try doing groundwork instead and you’ll soon see how both you and your horse can reap the benefits from it.

Make pumpkin horse treats

What’s better to do on a miserable day than some baking? Have a go at making some pumpkin treats for your horse – he’s bound to appreciate them! Look online for some horse-friendly recipes.
