Public to be given 24/7 access to rescued equines through new live webcam

The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, which rescues abandoned, neglected and abused horses and ponies, has launched a live webcam for people wanting to learn more about the charity’s work and the day-to-day activities of equines in its charge. This new webcam will improve accessibility to the public and allow for greater connection on a personal level with the sanctuary’s horses and ponies.

The sanctuary has recently launched a new, easy-to-navigate website, which includes access to the webcam, with the aim of making the sanctuary’s work as accessible as possible to anyone who wants to find out more.

The live feed is set up at the Mare and Foal’s Dartmoor-based Yelverton Sanctuary, which provides care for semi-feral and wild ponies, as well as other equines. The webcam covers the main barn and can be accessed 24 hours a day via the charity’s website, although Mare and Foal recommends daylight hours for anyone hoping to see the animals’ daily routines.

The public can now watch the horses’ day-to-day care, training and rehabilitation sessions with their grooms and any routine farrier and vet visits. The idea is to allow viewers to feel involved with the horses and ponies even if they can’t be there in person. This behind-the-scenes view is also important for anyone considering adoption of one of the charity’s animals.

Emma Platt, digital fundraising and activities manager at Mare and Foal, said: “It’s a challenging time for charities at the moment. We hope the webcam and the website will help us to reach out to existing and new supporters so they can see the vital lifelong, loving care we provide and the difference we’re making with their help.”
