Top riders compete at Eventing Spring Carnival four weeks ahead of Badminton

This weekend, 31 March-2 April, 66 of the 88 horse-and rider combinations due to compete at Badminton in May will be heading to Thoresby Park for the Eventing Spring Carnival. The carnival offers a chance to watch some of hotly tipped favourites in action early on in the eventing season.

In the line up will be world number one Tim Price and world number two Jonelle Price – the ‘power couple from New Zealand – with Tim competing on two horses and Jonelle riding four over the weekend. Leading riders from Great Britain are also appearing, including Yasmin Ingham, Ros Canter, Zara Tindall MBE, Laura Collett MBE, Tom McEwen MBE and Oliver Townend, all of whom are preparing for the big Badminton run. Laura finished third at Thoresby Park last year before going on to win the Badminton trophy.

Meanwhile, Tom, who won an individual silver medal at Tokyo 2020, will be riding Toledo de Kerser, who’s much-loved by eventing fans. Tom said: “It’s a place to go and put yourself against the best of the best that are going out for Burghley and Badminton titles. Not every horse will be running fast, but you get a feel of where you are in the field.”
