New for this year, Search for a Star will include a heavy horse series plus a £500 championship

The South Essex Insurance Brokers’ (SEIB) Search for a Star Series will this year include several new classes available to showing enthusiasts, including an amateur heavy horse in-hand series, an increase in pony height for the first ridden class, an amateur only Racehorse to Riding Horse series, plus the open veteran championship winner will receive a £500 cash prize.

The introduction of a class for heavy horses follows on from the success of a Shire who last year qualified for the Your Horse Live Search for a Star Championship. While following discussion with The Pony Club, the pony height for the first ridden class has been increased to 138cm to give more children a chance to compete. The addition of the £500 first prize for the open veteran championship will add an extra dimension following the success of the class last year.

New to the SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse Series is the amateur only competition which will be run by The Showing Register (TSR) on 15 July. This qualifying class has two tickets to be awarded to the Racehorse to Riding Horse championship at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) final.

Nicolina MacKenzie, SEIB’s Marketing Manager, said, “We are delighted to have secured the opportunity to take two more horses forward to the Racehorse to Riding Horse HOYS championship. These two extra places will only be open to strictly amateur riders and their Thoroughbreds.”

Renowned for ‘putting something back’ by supporting many equestrian activities, SEIB set up Search for a Star over 20 years ago and has provided amateur riders with thousands of opportunities to compete at championship shows. Each of the qualifying shows offers a full range of classes to earn a place at the series finals at HOYS and Your Horse Live. Judges and stewards at qualifying shows will be on hand to help and mentor all competitors. Plus, two ‘weekender’ events (one in Scotland and one in England) are planned for 2023, which will include a day of training followed by a full qualifying show for both HOYS and Your Horse Live.
